Away v Northwood
Date 26/07/07
Result 1-1
Scorer Ursell
Competition Friendly

Hendon continued their pre-season preparations with a 1-1 draw on a hot afternoon at Northwood. The first half was disappointing from a Hendon point of view as they failed to create many chances, but things improved considerably in the second period with plenty of chances created.

The first Hendon chance came in the 20th minute when a James Burgess corner was met by the head of Brian Haule and Northwood keeper Mitch Swain made a good save. Ten minutes later a good move involving Rob Ursell and Kevin Maclaren resulted in a cross from the latter being headed narrowly over the bar by Mark Kirby.

Northwood took the lead in the 35th minute when a cross from former Hendon player Danny Murphy was headed home by the unmarked Sean Sonner, giving Luke Blackmore no chance in the Hendon goal.

Hendon began the second half much brighter, and as a result they had the best of the play in the rest of the game. Despite that, Sonner had a great chance to double the lead but he somehow contrived to head the ball wide of the goal when it seemed easier to get the ball on target.

In the 55th minute the Greens equalised. After some good work involving a number of players, the ball fell to Rob Ursell. The former AFC Wimbledon player pulled a few tricks out of the bag to confuse his marker and he created some space to fire the ball home.

Four minutes later, Mark Kirby beat his marker and sent in a great cross which was headed against the post by Casey Maclaren with the keeper well beaten.

The Greens continued to control the game, and were unfortunate not to find a winner. In the 68th minute Leon Nelson touched the ball just wide after a good cross from Brian Haule, ten minutes later Dave Maissa Diedhiou fired a great shot off the crossbar, whilst towards the end Sam Byfield saw a shot go wide, before he turned creator for James Burgess who headed narrowly wide.
